Commonly found: In yards and gardens
Diet: Gophers are herbivores – feeding mostly on roots and plant matter.
General characteristics and facts:
- Gopher tunnels can be detected by raised ridges above ground. Unlike mole tunnels, gopher tunnels are further under ground, and are usually detected by the presence of a horseshoe-shaped mound next to a hole – leading down into the tunnel
- Gophers have large, long front teeth and the body of a round, medium-sized rodent – similar to a guinea pig
